Karnatak Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Hubballi
The institution has grown in strength and stature with over 3000 members from the nooks and corners of Karnataka. Among its early Presidents are Late Shri Abdulpurkar of Solapur and all Presidents viz., namely Late Shri Y. Mahabaleshwarappa Late Shri Shantappanna Yelamali, Late Shri Raghavendrarao Sirur and Shri B. A. Desai, who nursed with care and caution. Late Shri G. Mahadevappa, Late Shri C. S. Desai and Late Shri Veerabhadrappa Chigateri (in memory of Dharmaprakash Murigeppa Chigateri) with their munificent donations helped to build its own Chamber building, a local landmark in Hubli, which is named after Shri G. Mahadevappa.
The Chamber’s contribution in the unification movement was significant. In 1930, the Chamber requested Shri V.N. Jog and Shri B. Shivarao to sponsor unification resolutions in the Bombay and Madras Legislative Assemblies. Shri Brelvi and Dr. U. Rama Rao where approached to initiate similar action in the Central Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council; furnishing necessary data to them. In 1931, a Memorandum was submitted to Messrs Siva Rao and Sapru participating in the Round Table Conference at London to press for the creation of a separate state of Karnataka. During the second round table conference in 1932, Memoranda submitted to the Mirza Ismail, Mahatma Gandhi and Lord MacDonald, the British Prime Minister. Memoranda were also submitted to the Dhar Commission and the State Reorganization Commission; urging for the formation of a separate State of Karnataka. The Chamber delegation gave evidence before the SRC at Hubballi. A Memorandum was also submitted to the Wanchoo Commission at Bellary making out a case for the retention of Bellary Taluk in Karnataka.
The Chamber organised the Karnataka Unification Conference in 1933 and pursued the matter till the fulfillment of the goal during 1956. Later, a comprehensive Memorandum was presented to the Mahajan Commission pressing the claims of the Belgaum District to continue as part of Karnataka. Chamber also gave evidence before the Commission at Karwar.
The Chamber played a significant role in the spread of Higher Education in North Karnataka. It urged for the establishment of a separate University for North Karnataka area of erstwhile Bombay State including separate colleges of Agriculture, Engineering, Commerce and Medicine. Sri Mahabaleshwarappa, the then President of the Chamber was appointed as a member of the Committee set by the erstwhile Bombay Government to examine the feasibility of establishing a separate University for the region.
ALL THESE INSTITUTIONS ARE NOW A REALITY.
The J.G. College of Commerce, Hubballi was sponsored by the Chamber by donating a sum of Rs.1.2 lakhs.
The Shroff Memorial Debate is an annual feature eagerly awaited by the student community and the Chamber has earned encomiums for conducting it in a professional manner. Periodically, it has been undertaking the conducting of short courses to update the accounting skills of business and the staff as also courses on communication and personality development.
The Office bearers working with shoulders to shoulders as a team are ever active. The representation of its President in the SWR, ZRUCC, the Chamber is forging ahead with better Railway linkages of Hubli with other trading centers.
The Chamber is affiliated to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce of Industry, New Delhi, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India, New Delhi and the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce to promote trade and exports from the produce of this region. It has signed MoUs with National Chamber of Commerce with Sri Lanka. The members of the Chambers have been participating in delegations to Germany, the People Republic of China, Dubai, ZEH SEQUA and Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, through its Export Promotion Cell.
A Major breakthrough for the Chamber in the recent years is the establishment of Rs. 9 Crore Multipurpose Exhibition Centre at APMC, Amargol, Hubballi, in Partnership with the State Government. The KCC&I with display centre in the already built two huge sheds, conducted Industrial Exhibition “Incomex 2013” in its huge outlay of nine acres and it has showcased its skill and innovation of the industrial products promoting trade and business. In due course of time, it bids fair to assume popularity similar to the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi inviting key players in business and industry.
The Stock Trading House established in 1992 is a feather in the cap of the Chamber to create an investor friendly climate in this area.
The Chamber has been mounting pressure on the Government in the plans of expansion and modernization of the Hubballi Airport to International Standards.
The Chamber celebrated its Silver Jubilee under the Presidentship of Sri Shantappanna Yelamali. Shri Nijalingappa, the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka and Shri C.N. Punachcha, the Hon’ble then State Minister of Industry and Commerce were the Chief Guests.
June 12th, 1979 was a golden day in the history of Chamber and it celebrated its Golden Jubilee, under the Presidentship of Shri. J. P. Javali. His Excellency Shri Govinda Narayan, the then Governor of Karnatak inaugurated and Shri George Fernandes, the then Hon’ble Union Industry Minister was the Chief Guest.
The Golden Jubilee celebrated on a grand scale witnessed the creation of trust styled as Golden Jubilee Trust to cater to the needs of education to generations of youngsters as well as the old, imparting knowledge about business and trade on subjects like Accountancy, Business Taxation and Soft Skills. More than 13,000 businessmen, industrialists, their children and students have been trained by the trust.
The Chamber celebrated its Diamond Jubilee during 1991 under the Presidentship of Shri K.B. Desai. Shri Shantanu Kirloskar, Chairman, Kirloskar Oil Engine Limited, Pune was the Chief Guest.
The Chamber has traded more than 75 long years of success and achievements and has celebrated its Platinum Jubilee during 2003-04 when it paid its floral tributes to its founder and successive great Presidents.
The Chamber celebrated its Platinum Jubilee under the Presidentship of Shri Shankaranna Munavalli. Revered Gnanayogi Siddeshwara Swamiji of Gnana Yogashrama of Bijapur lighted the lamp of inauguration. Shri N. Dharam Singh, the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka was the Chief Guest. Shri Baba Kalyani of M/s. Bharat Forge Limited delivered Key Note address.
Other VVIPs participated in the recent functions were Shri Kishore Chowkar, CEO of TATA, Shri Sajjan Jindal of Jindal Group of Industries etc.
The Chamber has also added feathers to its crown by inviting distinguished personalities to address its members on State and Central Budget, Economic Policies of the Nation, Liberalization, Privatization, Globalization, Gatt, impact of WTO etc and they were Late Dr. P.R. Brahmanand, Late Shri Nani Palkhiwala, Shri D.R. Pendse, Justice Shri Shivaraj Patil, Shri Sharu Ranganekar, Dr. Mujumdar, Shri Ram Jetmalani, former Hon’ble Minister for Law and Justice, Govt. of India etc.
The Chamber also addressed itself towards the socio economic development of this region by playing a pivotal role in bringing home to the Government the requirements of North Karnataka like High Court Bench, all-weather Karwar Port, Broad gauge between Gadag and Bijapur, upgradation of existing Air port, South Western Railway Zone. It is because of the efforts of Chamber that Hubballi-Dharwad appeared on the Industrial map of India as the IT hub.
The Chamber is instrumental in establishing Karnataka Material Testing Laboratory which is only of its kind in this region to meet the requirements of Industries.
The Chamber has to its credit many laurels for having organised Industrial Exhibitions, Seminars and Symposia on various Trade, Industry, Agriculture and Export.
The Chamber, in order to promote and develop industries organised four Mega Events i.e. INCOMEX-1996, INCOMEX-2002, INCOMEX-2007 & INCOMEX-2013. The functions were attended by distinguished personalities’ viz., Shri Deve Gowda the then Chief Minister of Karnataka and former Prime Minister of India, Shri Shantanu Kirloskar of Kirloskar Group of Industries and Shri Ratan Tata, CEO of TATA Group of Industries. Many Large and Medium Scale Industries actively participated in the event and gave scope for development of Small Scale and Cottage Industries.
“INCOMEX-2007”: was inaugurated by Shri Katta Subramanya Naidu, Hon’ble Minister for Large and Medium Scale Industries, Govt. of Karnataka. Impressed by the event, the Hon’ble Minister assured to give scope for the development of a Permanent Exhibition Centre in Hubli-Dharwad twin cities.
The Karnatak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hubli, in association with Industries and Commerce Department, GOK, organized a Mega Industrial Exhibition “INCOMEX -2013” jointly with District Administration, and other organisations from 13th to 17th April, 2013 at the Hubli-Dharwad Multipurpose Exhibition Centre, Amargol, Hubballi. Sri H.K. Patil, Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj inaugurated the event. Sri Jagadish Shettar, Former Chief Minister, GOK presided over the function.
The Mega events like Incomex 1996, 2002, 2007 and 2013 underscore the promotional activity of the Chamber, keeping in view the government provisions, the interest of business and Industry to showcase their products, as well as the processes leading to customer awareness, marketing of new products and promoting a healthy dialogue between the magnates of industry and the customers.
The Chamber cherishes the trust reposed by all the stakeholders of business and commerce through “Karnatak Vanijya”, a monthly bulletin, which is a mirror outlining the legislative measures, notifications and amendments.

The Karnatak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hubli, in association with Industries and Commerce Department, GOK, and, Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizer department, Government of India have organized a Mega Industrial Exhibition “INCOMEX -2016” jointly with District Administration, and other organisations from 2nd Dec to 6th Dec 2016 at Hubli-Dharwad Multipurpose Exhibition Centre, Amargol Hubballi. In the Exhibition Public Sector under taking companies Agro based, food processing units, engineering, Chemical, banking, insurance and finance sector were actively participated in the event, exhibition was followed by Seminar and Vendor development B2B discussion throughout the event. Exhibition was inaugurated Sri Siddaramaih Hon’ble Chief minister GOK, the event. Sri H.K. Patil, Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Sri R.V Deshpande Hon’ble Minister for Large and Medium Industry GOK were present, for Valedictory function Sri Anant Kumar Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizer and Parliament affairs GOI were guest and Sri Jagadish Shettar, Former Chief Minister, GOK presided over the function.
